Need a hand with LocalSpots? Start with the answers below. If you’re still stuck, email hello@white-oak-ai.com and a real person will reply, usually within two business days. Include your iPhone model, iOS version and what you were trying to do.
Getting started
How do I save a place?
Open a post in Instagram, TikTok or Facebook, tap Share, and choose Save to LocalSpots. You can also share a place from Google Maps or Apple Maps. Pick the matching place, add an optional note and tags, and tap Save.
I don’t see “Save to LocalSpots” in the share sheet.
The first time, scroll to the end of the row of apps in the share sheet, tap More, and switch on Save to LocalSpots. You can drag it higher in the list so it’s easy to reach. If it still doesn’t appear, make sure LocalSpots is installed and restart the app you’re sharing from.
The place isn’t suggested automatically.
Instagram, TikTok and Facebook don’t give apps a post’s location. LocalSpots reads the public caption and suggests searches from it, but private posts and login walls (Facebook especially) may show no caption. In that case, type the place name in the search box and pick the right result.
Your list
How do I edit or delete a spot?
Swipe a row to the right to rename it or change its note and tags. Swipe left to delete it or open the original post. A spot’s address and coordinates come from the place lookup and can’t be edited.
How do I filter by tag?
Tap a tag chip under the navigation bar to show only spots with that tag. Tap it again to clear the filter.
Why does a spot open in Google Maps?
Tapping a spot opens it in Google Maps so you can get directions or tap Save there to add it to one of your Google Maps lists. Google doesn’t allow other apps to add to those lists directly.
Nearby alerts
How do I turn on alerts?
Turn on nearby alerts in the app, then allow notifications and Always location access when asked. You’ll get a notification such as “You’re near Café Moka” when you come within about 200 meters of a saved spot, at most once every six hours per spot.
Why am I not getting alerts?
- Check Settings → LocalSpots → Location is set to Always, and Notifications are allowed.
- iPhones let an app monitor only 20 places at once. LocalSpots watches your closest spots (5 on Free, 20 on Pro) and re-points them as you move.
- Low Power Mode, a fast drive-by, or poor GPS can cause a region to be missed.
- Focus modes can silence notifications. Allow LocalSpots in your Focus settings.
Pro, purchases and sync
What’s included in Free and Pro?
Free: up to 25 saved spots, nearby alerts for your 5 closest spots, and local storage on your iPhone. Pro: unlimited spots, alerts for your 20 closest spots, and iCloud sync. Pro is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime unlock.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open the paywall in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple ID you bought with.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → LocalSpots and choose Cancel. You’ll keep Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I went over the free limit. Did I lose spots?
No. Existing spots are never deleted. If you’re over the limit, you just can’t add more until you upgrade or remove some.
iCloud sync isn’t working.
Sync is part of Pro and uses your own iCloud Drive. Check that you’re signed in to iCloud, iCloud Drive is on, and LocalSpots is enabled under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Drive. Then pull down on your list to force a sync on each device.
Privacy and your data
LocalSpots has no account, ads or tracking, and your location stays on your device. See the privacy policy for details, including how to remove your iCloud copy.
